Frequently Asked Questions
Who Do We Sponsor?
We focus our efforts on children who are unlikely to receive help from anyone. We use our local workers to search for these children on a regular basis and provide them with food, education, and a chance in life.
Each child comes from a different background and family (or no family). Therefore it is difficult to say how much it costs to support one child. For example, in Tanzania it costs about $25 per year to support one child through school. However, some kids may also need food or medicine.
We try to remain flexible in our expenses by not applying a strict budget on each child, but rather provide each child with what they need when they need it. Close monitoring of the children is done by our local workers and school.
How Do You Find the Children?
Most of the street kids have a home to go back to. They just spend most of their day on the streets trying to make money and survive. We used to go to the streets to talk to children, but now the kids come to us. After seeing their friends going to school, a movement started among the children to leave the streets and go to school. Most of these kids live in nearby villages with parents, grandparents, or siblings.
Education Only?
No. Street children need much more support than just education. We send sick kids to hospitals and feed hungry families as well. School costs about $25 per child for a year of elementary school, and about $75 for high school education. A child to visit a hospital for malarial treatment costs about $7. In addition, our workers visit the families and check in on the kids regularly. Poverty is a complex problem with many layers. However, we believe education, along with other types of support, is an effective way to fight this problem.
Where Does the Money Go?
We decided to start an organization that was very personal and transparent. We are proud to say that we use no money on administration or overhead costs. All donations go directly to the people in need.
